“ | Savine had given up trying to understand him. Most of the time, she was the one thing he loved in a world he despised. Then, on occasion, he treated her like a rival to be crushed. | ” |
Fencing with Father is the fourteenth chapter of A Little Hatred.
Chapter Summary[]
Savine dan Glokta is at fencing practice with her father1 as well, although she’s fighting Bremer dan Gorst of course, while the crippled Arch Lector critiques from the sidelines. The years have not been kind to Glokta; he’s scarcely skin and bones, and now gets pushed round in a wheelchair, but his mind is still as sharp as ever. Savine has been fencing since she was a girl, and is a fine swordswoman, though Gorst clearly holds back when fighting her. In frustration, she asks to see him fight like he means it. Gorst glances at her father, who agrees with a shrug. The difference however is astonishing. With shocking speed and strength, Savine is soon sprawled on the floor, her face, her side, and her pride all aching.
