Gurkhul is a large nation on the southern continent of Kanta, and the founding nation of the Gurkish Empire. It is inhabited by dark-skinned people, and led by the Emperor Uthman-ul-Dosht from the capital Shaffa. Although the Emperor seems all powerful, he is being manipulated by the Magus Khalul, who has made himself the religious leader of the Gurkish, with the title of The Prophet. He controls the Empire through his priests and Eaters, including Mamun the first apprentice of Khalul.
