Selest dan Heugen is an admirer of Savine dan Glokta, and later her rival. She is a young woman, with freckle-shouldered and a garish red wig. She's also a second cousin of Lord Heugen. When Selest first introduces herself at the Solar Society, Savine dismisses her as an ineffectual pretender; trying and failing to replace her in Dietam dan Kort's canal project, and missing out on seducing Leo dan Brock. But as Savine's star falls, Selest enjoys success after success. She has become the new darling of the Solar Society, after investing in Kaspar dan Arinhorm’s scheme to improve mining with the use of pumps. The pair are now clearly bitter rivals, as demonstrated when Selest mischievously reveals Savine's past relationship with King Orso to her new husband, Lord Brock.
