Skald is one of the outside bets for the vote in the Open Council election of the new High King. He proves an unexpectedly ruthless man, securing most of the thirty delegates in Starikland. The election is eventually won by King Jezal the First; thanks to Bayaz' meddling. The new regime plans to curb the powers of the Lord Governor Skald over his provinces, along with Fedor dan Meed.
